PodCamp Pittsburgh – PCPGH7

What is #PCPGH7? I could easily send you to the about page for the event, but what fun would that be?

#PCPGH7 is PodCamp Pittsburgh’s seventh event. It started in 2004 and has grown into one of the ‘most do’ social media events in Pittsburgh. #PCPGH7 is the hashtag used to track the plethora of tweets being sent out throughout the day. Tweets that are packed with informative insight and playful banter – Check them out here.

I have attended the event for the past 3 years. The first two online using the available streams. This year I decided to take the plunge and attend in person. (I should have done this sooner…) I am so glad I did.

Not only am I attending (there is another full day today) but I have chosen to volunteer. Doing so gave me more incentive to not chicken out on event day. So I spent half of my day attending the sessions I chose to see [Full list of sessions I attended over the two day event tomorrow kids... yup you gotta come back!] and half of it attending the sessions I was assigned to ‘work.’ None of these sessions left me disappointed. Every session was filled with information that I plan to work into TheBaldFatGuy as a business, social media entity, and my every day life.

When I arrived, I almost immediately met one of folks I have been longing to speak to in person. I won’t tell you his real name nor will I show you a photo, but he is the man behind YaJagoff.com. Between you and me, he is NO jagoff!

He and I spoke off and on most of the day, he even took time to introduce me to the folks of CellHelmet.com (I’d love to get one of their cases to blog about in the future…) His introduction of me was priceless. He said, “Hey guys, guess what this man’s name is on twitter n’at… He’s BaldFatGuy!” One of them said “YEAH! I’ve seen you. I followed you last year due to your handle alone!”

Talk about branding eh ;)

The conversation continued with comments like “Your avatar is dead on…” etc.

:NOTE: Anyone who mentioned my avatar this weekend said the same thing. I love it! :end NOTE:

I also got to meet WPXI’s weather man and tweeter extraordinaire Scott Harbaugh. He then proceeded to stalk me for the rest of the day. Or maybe it was the young lady who I spent a lot of time with… Nah, it had to be me, right???

The event included hanging with some of folks I have met in the past due to social Media. People like Chris Dilla of Bocktown Beer and Grill fame, and Becki (the real object of Harbaugh’s stalking) who helped me to feel at home during my first day.

I will give you more detail about PodCamp as an event in tomorrow’s post. But being a social media event, I would be remiss if I did not mention that as of the time of this posting, I have gained nearly 25 new twitter followers. Quality people that include fellow attendees and speakers. Famous people and ordinary folks alike.

Ok kids, I’m off to prepare for day two. Yinz have a great day n’at!
