Aside from a t-shirt, pen, & stickers, I got my head filled with K-Bombs…
The sessions I attended when I was not fulfilling my volunteer duties will surely be put to use moving forward.
The day started with a keynote with the guys behind Pittsburgh Dad. If you have not been lucky enough to experience what Curt Wootton & Chris Preksta have to offer, check ‘is aht n’at!
I skipped the first session on Saturday to charge my phone. I know, that sounds a bit lame, but the amount of social media-ing being done at this event was insane. The Hashtag #pcpgh7 was in constant flow. Folks were tweeting and retweeting one another at break-neck speeds. Great chunks of information were being tossed into the twittersphere and I did not want to miss a single character…
That and I was waiting on Becki to get there…
The Saturday sessions covered a wide variety of topics. Each one tempted me, but with 5 sessions per hour and only one of me, well, I am sure you get the picture. The great thing is, in a few weeks, all of the sessions will be online. Gotta love technology…
Once Becki arrived, we headed to the Old Media and New Media session led by politics and business reporter, KDKA’s Jon Delano and local blogger David DeAngelo of the blog “2 Political Junkies.” I learned a great deal about how the media uses social media AND how it does not… (I also learned that Diet Coke may or may not get rid of cat urine…)
As I mentioned yesterday, I spent lunch milling around talking to folks and just taking in the social aspect of PodCamp.
The next session I attended was chosen for me (as were the two following…) It was volunteer time…
The three sessions were:
Turning Social Media Contacts Into Real Life Contacts - Rachel Blaufeld
Social Media for Industry – Strategies… - Thomas Meshanko
Social Media and the Media - Kim Lyons
I recommend these sessions to anyone! It is amazing to see how social media is making an impact in people’s lives in so many ways. I greatly enjoyed reading the live-tweets from the panel of the Social Media and the Media session and interacting with them as it went on.
After the closing keynote, a few of us hung out in the room chatting and discussing the days events. We stayed so long, we were actually asked to gather somewhere else so they could lock up the room ;D
Tune in tomorrow to find out what sessions I attended on Sunday and all the super cool fun I had.
